Can you help me decide on a research paper topic?
Answer
For research topic ideas, check out
- CQ Researcher,
- Credo Reference, and
- Gale's Opposing Viewpoints and Academic One File.
Find a timely topic of interest to you and possibly your professor. They do get tired of reading 100 renditions on the same tired topic.
Also, find reliable online resources, not considered surfing the web.
For CQ Researcher access: From the College webpage at https://ashland.kctcs.edu, click on Quick Links > Current Students > Library tile > Find Things > Other tab > CQ Researcher > BROWSE REPORTS > By date > click on a recent year.
Each CQ Researcher topic includes
- an Introduction,
- an Overview,
- Background,
- Current Situation,
- Future Outlook,
- a Pro/Con discussion question,
- a Chronology of the topic,
- and more.
The especially nice Chronology gives you a concise history of the topic.
For Credo Reference access: From the College webpage at https://ashland.kctcs.edu, click on Quick Links > Current Students > Library tile > Find Things > Other tab > Credo Reference.
See the list of "Research Popular Topics" or use the search box.
Topics accessed from the "Research Popular Topics" list include
- an overview,
- a definition,
- related topics, and
- links to additional relevant articles.
For Gale's Opposing Viewpoints and Academic One File: From the College webpage at https://ashland.kctcs.edu, click on Quick Links > Current Students > Library tile > Find Things > the Gale tab > then Academic One File or Opposing Viewpoints.
For topic ideas from Opposing Viewpoints:
- click on "Browse Issues",
- scroll though "Issues of Interest" or
- scroll down to "Brows Issues".
For topic ideas from Gale's Academic One File:
- Browse By Discipline or
- use the Topic Finder feature
