Why can't I login to the databases?
Answer
Using a “private window”, or “private browsing session”, resolves many login issues. Best options:
- Chrome’s “New Incognito window”
- Firefox’s “New Private window”
To access Chrome’s “New incognito window” from the "Start" menu > right click the Chrome icon > select “New Incognito window”.
To access Firefox’s “New Private window” from start the "Start" menu > right click the Firefox icon > select “New Private window”.
You’re on your way to accessing resources via the Library’s search box. When accessing the Library's database pages from off campus, you will be prompted for your KCTCS username and password (the one you use when logging into Blackboard, library computer, etc.). Your user name is your first initial, last name, (plus a suffix Jr, ii, iii, iv, etc. if appropriate), and a four digit number, like 0001, 0475, etc.
Explanation: Many programs, including Blackboard, work best with Chrome and Firefox. Using a “new private window” or “new browsing session" helps avoid issues with expired passwords and timed out pages.
CAUTION: Although clearing your cache may eliminate Library Database login issues, it also clears saved passwords and search history.
